Noah's Ark Craft

Going along with our Rainbows theme my son made this Noah's ark craft that I wanted to share. This is my favorite type of craft because it leads to lots of pretend play!

Materials Needed:
A Paper Bag
Yarn
Tape
A Pen
Scissors
Markers (or other supplies to decorate your ark)

To prepare for this craft you'll first need to cut 2 half circles out of your paper bag. I did this by pushing out the sides of the bag, folding it flat, and then cutting a half circle out of the top. You're circle certainly doesn't need to be perfect but you do want the two sides to match up. Cutting both sides of the bag together (as pictured above) is an easy way to accomplish that. An older child could probably do this step themselves, but my son isn't too good at cutting curves just yet.

Next use your pen (or a holepuncher) to punch holes along the curved edge about a 3/4 inch from the edge and about an inch apart.

Wrap a small piece of tape around one end of the yarn to make a tip for lacing.

Tie the string to the ark at one end and let your child take over and lace the yarn through the holes. This is actually the first time my son has laced completely independently for more than a few stitches!

When they're finished lacing, tie off the other end, clip the excess string and let them decorate as desired.

Now all that's left to do is load up your ark with animals and let the narration and pretend play begin!
(You can print off free Noah & animal pair popsicle stick puppets HERE.)

Have fun getting crafty!
